Innings win for Mumbai
March 16, 2004 18:25 IST
Mumbai put up a strong all-round performance to crush Hyderabad by an innings and 152 runs and enter the Ranji Trophy final for a record 39th time at the Wankhede stadium in Mumbai on Tuesday.
Captain Sairaj Bahutule again bowled a deadly spell to claim six wickets for 53 runs and bundle out the visitors for a paltry 158 in their second innings on the third day of the semi-final.
Bahutule, who returned with match figures of 10 for 95, has grabbed 34 wickets this season.
It was India under-19 captain Ambati Rayudu who again stood tall among the ruins with a well-made 53 before being stumped by Vinayak Samant off Bahutule.
Only Anirudh Singh, with a quickfire 42 off 51 balls, provided support to Rayudu while the other Hyderabad batsmen just threw away their wickets.
Earlier, resuming at their overnight score of 389 for three, Mumbai extended their first innings lead to 310 before being all out for 476.
Overnight batsmen Amol Muzumdar and Bhavin Thakkar batted without hurry until visiting captain Venkatapathy Raju dismissed both of them to give Hyderabad a crucial breakthrough.
First, Raju made Muzumdar mistime a shot and give a simple catch to Anirudh Singh at short cover when the former had just added nine runs to his overnight score of 49.
The left arm spinner then trapped Thakkar leg before and also took the wicket of Manoj Joglekar, who added 47 runs for the sixth wicket with his captain Bahutule, getting him caught by Anirudh at forward short leg.
After Bahutule was given leg before off Shivaji Yadav for 23, no other Mumbai batsman lasted long enough and the entire team was allout for 476.
Raju ended with six wickets while Shivaji Yadav claimed four wickets for 162 runs.
Mumbai will meet the winners of the other semi-final match between Tamil Nadu and Railways being played at Chennai.
