Woolmer to replace Miandad

June 16, 2004 19:04 IST

Pakistan cricket coach Javed Miandad was sacked on Wednesday following the team's first ever home series defeat against India in April.

The PCB said former England batsman Bob Woolmer, who coached South Africa, will replace the former Pakistan batting ace.

"Woolmer has agreed to be our national team coach which is a matter of great satisfaction for us. Miandad wanted to be released from the job and we felt we should honour his request," PCB chairman Shaharyar Khan said.

The 55-year old Woolmer, who played 19 Tests and six One-Day Internationals for England before becoming South Africa's national coach for four years, was working as the International Cricket Council's high-performance manager.
