South Zone scored a remarkable victory over England 'A' in the Duleep Trophy match in Gurgaon on Tuesday.
Chasing a victory target of 501, South reached the target, losing only four wickets in the process, thanks to an unbeaten double hundred from Y Venugopal Rao and centuries from S Sriram and S Badrinath.
Their total of 503-4 is the highest ever on Indian soil in the fourth innings of a first class match. It is also the fourth highest fourth innings total ever to win a match in first class cricket's history.
The previous highest fourth innings total to win a match on Indian soil was 427 for 9 by Commonwealth XI against Bengal Chief Minister's XI at Calcutta in 1964-65.
