Uttar Pradesh gain two points

December 12, 2003 20:01 IST

Uttar Pradesh claimed two points by virtue of the first innings lead as their four-day Ranji Trophy Elite Group 'A' match against Andhra Pradesh ended in a draw at Kanpur on Friday.

Resuming their second innings at the overninght score of 70 for three,  Uttar Pradesh relied on a 100-run fourth wicket partnership between Suresh Raina (79) and Shiva Kant (23) to pull the team out of the pits.

But the dismissal of Shiva Kant triggered off a dramatic collapse that saw the home team losing the remaining wickets in quick succession to be bundled out for 223.

Star all-rounder Gynanendra Pandey (O), Rizwan Shamshad (27), Prashant Malvia (10) and A W Zaidi (0) failed when it mattered most and the innings folded up an hour after the lunch break.

Andhra Pradesh scored 129 for six in their second innings before play was called off.

With two points in their kitty, Uttar Pradesh have secured four points from five outings so far while Andhra Pradesh have six points from as many outings.

Uttar Pradesh will take on Baroda in their last league match while Andhra Pradesh will clash with Punjab.
