Railways skittled out cheaply

December 01, 2003 22:03 IST

A fine spell by Ashish Winston Zaidi and Pramod Chawla helped Uttar Pradesh bowl out former Ranji champions Railways for a paltry 137 on the opening day of the Ranji Trophy Elite Group 'A' cricket match in Lucknow on Monday.

The Railways batsmen, with the exception of skipper Sanjay Bangar (51), failed to find their feet and collapsed like a deck of cards.

Paceman Zaidi claimed four wickets for 36 while Pravin Gupta and Shiv Shukla scalped three each for 36 and 12 runs respectively.

However, Uttar Pradesh could not build on the good work of their bowlers as they lost two quick wickets for 16 runs before the close.

Skipper Jyoti Yadav (4 not out) and Gupta (0) were at the crease at the draw of stumps.
