Agarkar recalled for third Test
Ajit Agarkar was recalled to the Indian team for the third and final Test against
West Indies to replace Zaheer Khan who has been rested on medical advice.
Agarkar is the only change made in the Indian team for the third match by the Selection Committee which met here for two hours after the second Test concluded. Captain Sourav
Ganguly and coach John Wright were present during the meeting.
Zaheer Khan, nursing an injury sustained during recent England tour, was advised two weeks' rest after a fresh MRI scan done on Saturday, Board of Cricket for Control in India secretary S K Nair told reporters announcing the 14-member team chosen by the selectors.
Agarkar was one of the four members of the Indian Test team in England to be left out for the first two matches against the West Indies. Opener Wasim Jaffer, medium pacer Tinu Yohannan and wicketkeeper Ajay Ratra were also not considered.
Nair said Zaheer Khan would be available for the one-day series following rest and "active rehabilitation".
Zaheer Khan had been referred to orthopaedic experts in Chennai who advised him to take rest, he said.
The selectors also named a 14-member Rest of India squad led by Yuvraj Singh for the Irani Trohpy match to be played against Ranji champions Railways in Delhi from October 28.
