PCB chairman Tauqir Zia resigns

Pakistan Cricket Board chairman Lt Gen Tauqir Zia has resigned following the country's disgraceful defeat against Australia at Sharjah on Saturday.

In the resignation, submitted to Pakistan president Pervez Musharraf on Saturday night, Zia said: "I could not handle the politics of the game and as such have tendered my resignation. Enough is enough. I have done everything to lift the spirit of the game."

"I am shaken by the margin of the defeat," The News quoted Zia as saying.

Pakistan just managed a total of 111 runs in the two innings and lost the match within two days.

The 59 made by Pakistan in their first innings was their lowest-ever in Test cricket. But they sunk to a new low after being bundled out for 53 yesterday to plunge to an innings and 193 run defeat.
