Boycott hopes to return to commentating

Shyam Bhatia

As he continues to undergo treatment for cancer, Geoff Boycott says he hopes to be back at work as a cricket commentator in time for next year's World Cup in southern Africa.

The 62-year-old former Yorkshire and England opening batsman was diagnosed with the disease last September after a lump was found on his neck.

Now he has told his employers, American sports broadcasters ESPN, how he hopes to retrun to his duties behind the mike as a commentator in time for the World Cup in southern Africa next spring.

"I feel very good - no problems swallowing and eating", he said in widely quoted comments at his home in Yorkshire. "I'm sleeping well, and my weight's great."

More treatment is planned for Boycott in the weeks leading upto Christmas.

"I need some more drugs and radiation treatment that will start next week and go on for five weeks," he said. "I hope I will be ready to resume work for ESPN by the World Cup in February."
