Australia stay No. 1 in one-day ratings
M J Manohar Rao and Srinivas Bhogle
As we indicated last time, even a 2-0 victory against New Zealand (37.87) in the VB Series finals doesn't help South Africa (64.02) regain its top place. Australia (65.01) are still almost a point ahead of South Africa. New Zealand stay at the seventh place. The current scorecard is shown in Table A.

The forthcoming five-match duel between New Zealand (37.87) and England (38.86) should be interesting. A close result would help India (39.77) stay fifth; if the series is one-sided, the winner could well overtake India. Table G summarizes some of the likely scenarios in the NZ-Eng series to be held during 13-25 February 2002.

So there are some interesting battles ahead. The earnest Indian supporter must wonder why his team is in the 5-7 race, instead of being in the 1-4 race. The reaction of the cynical Indian fan, on the other hand, is best summarized by the reaction we got two days ago: "India at No.5? You must be joking! We are at the bottom; even Kenya have defeated us!"
