Australian Test umpire Darrell Hair was born; Test umpire since 1993-94.

1954:
Late Australian Dr Percie Charlton, who played for two Tests -- scoring 29 runs and claiming three wickets -- died; he was born in 1890.

Indian wicket-keeper Chandrakant Pandit was born; played for India in the late eighties.

1972:
Surrey and current England batsman Ian Ward was born.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India awarded the controversy-ridden telecast rights to Doordarshan in a whopping five-year deal worth Rs 228.50 crore.

David Boon1994:
Australian opener David Boon completed his 19th Test century (114 v Pak, Karachi).

Some 70 eager students from the Lighthouse School and Sunrise Centre participated in the fourth annual Cable & Wireless' Cricket Crazy; the weekend was enjoyed by all including the famous guest stars Sir Viv Richards, Curtly Ambrose, Jimmy Adams, Courtney Walsh and Michael Holding.
