Statistical Highlights

Mohandas Menon

2nd ODI, South Africa vs Kenya

arrow Although Kenya were playing the home side for the fourth time, this was their first ever match in South Africa.

arrow For the only second time in LOI history three players from the same family were appearing together in same match. The Otieno brothers - Kennedy, David and Collins - emulated New Zealand's Hadlee brothers - Dayle, Richard and Barry. All the three Kiwi players had appeared twice in LOI matches - both against England at Dunedin on 8-3-1975 and Nottingham on 11-6-1975.

arrow Makhaya Ntini became the first South African bowler to claim a LOI wicket by dismissing a batsman "hit-wicket". The unfortunate victim Ravindu Shah, meanwhile became the second Kenyan to be dismissed in this manner after Maurice Odumbe (v WI at Pune on 29-2-1996. Incidentally, Shah's dismissal was the first in a LOI match in South Africa.

arrow Steve Tikolo's unbeaten 68 was the highest score by any player between the two sides. The previous highest was the 67 by the same batsman at the Nairobi Gymkhana on 30-9-1999. Incidentally, this was highest score made against the home team at this venue bettering the 58 by New Zealand's Nathan Astle on 22-10-2000.

arrow The sixth and seventh wicket partnerships between Tikolo and the Suji brothers - Martin and Tony - of 28 and 21 respectively were the best for this venue by any team.

arrow The third wicket partnership of 89 runs between Jacques Kallis and Neil McKenzie was best at this venue. The pair obliterated the previous best of 85 runs between Indian Sachin Tendulkar and Rahul Dravid against Zimbabwe on 9-2-1997.

arrow This win was South Africa's 10th win in the last 11 matches (and their fifth in a row). Meanwhile Kenya recorded its 14th loss in a row since their last win against Bangladesh at Dhaka on 24-3-1999 - nearly 30 months ago.

arrow Playing in his 137th match, the South Afican skipper Shaun Pollock won his seventh man of the match award of his career.
