Donald no longer wants to play test cricket

South African fast bowler Allan Donald may have played his last test match after asking to only be selected for one day matches, the United Cricket Board of South Africa (UCBSA) announced on Wednesday.

The UCBSA has accepted the request, but Donald has agreed to make himself available for test cricket if he is needed.

"Allan discussed his decision with me on the recent tour of the Caribbean," said Gerald Majola, the chief executive of the UCBSA.

"We are all aware that Allan has been battling to finish the five-day game. He feels that if he plays only one-day internationals, he can concentrate on regaining his fitness in preparation for the World Cup in 2003."

Both Donald and Jonty Rhodes, who has retired from test cricket, had their contracts with the UCBSA renewed for one year only, after which they will be reviewed again.

Rhodes has also agreed to make himself available for test cricket, but only as a last resort.

Batsman Daryll Cullinan, who is playing for Kent in the English county championships, was not among the 19 cricketers offered new contracts.

"Daryll's commitments means he will not be available for numerous tests and one-day internationals," Majola said.

"As a result we have not offered him a contract. But this does not mean we are discarding him, and he is still open to selection if he is available.

"We still believe in Daryll, and he showed himself to be one of the best batsmen on the recent tour of the Caribbean."
