Fitness tests for Lee, Gillespie
Australian fast bowlers Brett Lee and Jason Gillespie will undergo fitness
assessments at the Sydney Cricket Ground on Saturday afternoon, 19 May 2001.
Both players were chosen for either all or part of the Travelex Australian
Tour of the UK 2001 after suffering injuries, and the work-out will be an
opportunity for medical staff to check on their recovery.
Also present at the session, which should start at around 1pm and last for
up to two hours, will be Australian team doctor Trefor James,
physiotherapists Errol Alcott and Patrick Farhart, fitness adviser Jock
Campbell and Chairman of Selectors Trevor Hohns.
Gillespie, who has been selected for both the one-day international and Test
match sections of the three-month tour, has been recovering from a stress
reaction in his left foot, suffered during the recent tour of India.
Lee, chosen for the five-match Ashes series that follows the one-day
internationals, has been building back to full fitness after undergoing
surgery on his right elbow which he injured during a Carlton Series match
against Zimbabwe in Perth in early February.
