Question:The big three in Indian Cricket, namely Sachin ,Saurav and Rahul, have been serving Indian cricket for long. I would like to know, what are their comparative averages in tests and one-dayers ,both at home and abroad. Who among the three have better averages abroad and what have their contributions been to saving a test or bringing India close to winning??? Where does the latest find Laxman stand in this scheme of things?

Question:Please compare Sachin's centuries against winning status of that match. Waiting for your answer.
Thanks
Mukesh PS: When can I see the answer of my question. Because I sent one query earlier, but haven't got an answer in this site. Please let me know ?
Mohandas Menon:
Out of the 25 Test matches hundreds scored by Sachin Tendulkar - India has won six, lost seven, while the remaining 12 matches were drawn. In ODIs out of the 28 hundreds, India has won 22 matches, while six matches were lost.

Question:Hello Mr. Menon, this question is entirely related to our Indian team. Do you think our batsmen couldn't chase the total of 200-250 and the team is always dependent on, usually Sachin, Sourav and Dravid the youngsters are doing very well but at the right time they can't do the job very well. For example they lost the final one-dayer against Australia?
Mohandas Menon:
It does seem that the Indian ODI team always depend on Tendulkar, Ganguly and Dravid while they have to chase scores over 250. However in the recent times batsmen like Hemang Badani and on occasions Yuvraj Singh and VVS Laxman are also capable of scoring runs in ODI matches.

Question:I would like to know what are the highest scores made by teams in the last 10 overs of an ODI. Also what are the highest scores made by India in the same period and against whom. Thank you.
Mohandas Menon:
Although actual tally of runs in the last 10 overs of earlier ODI matches have not been recorded, India had scored 128 runs in the last 10 overs (from 245-1 to 373-6) against Sri Lanka at Taunton on 26-5-1999 which is believed to be the maximum runs scored off the last 10 overs in ODIs.

Question:A lot of fuss was made about Steve Waugh not making a half century in the second innings of a test match for last 3 years and that record was intact in the current series although he missed it by 3 runs in the Chennai test. Can you provide career statistics of the following great batsmen of last 30 years or so in the second innings of the test match as compared to first innings and overall: Gary Sobers, Sunil Gavaskar, Viv Richards, Javed Miandad, Greg Chappell, Allan Border, David Gower, Sachin Tendulkar, Brian Lara, Steve Waugh.

Question:In the last 20 years there were very few batsmen in world cricket as compared to earlier era who reached one hundred centuries in first class cricket. In fact if I can recall correctly only Geoffrey Boycott, Graham Gooch and latest in the list Graeme Hick are the only ones who have done that. Am I right in this respect? Arguably the best batsman in the world, Sachin Tendulkar has only 48 hundreds to his credit in first class cricket. Can you provide me the list of batsmen who have reached the milestone of 100 100's in first class cricket (with the date on which they reached the milestone). Are there any current batsmen who have 50 or more hundreds in first class cricket?
Mohandas Menon:
At the end of the 2000 English season, as many as 24 batsmen have over 100 first-class hundreds during their career. However in the last 20 years, the following six batsmen have achieved this landmark: New Zealander Glenn Turner (in 1982), Pakistani Zaheer Abbas (in 1982-83), Englishman Dennis Amiss (in 1986), West Indian Viv Richards (in 1988-89), Englishman Graham Gooch (in 1992-93) and Englishman Graeme Hick (in 1998). For your information, Englishman WG Grace was the first batsman to score 100 hundreds in 1895. Among the current players other than Hick, Australian Mark Waugh (73) has the maximum hundreds. At the end of English season 2000, nine current batsmen have over 50-plus hundreds. Among current Indians Mohammad Azharuddin (51) has most first-class hundreds.

Question:Dear Mr.Menon, Would you subscribe to the suggestion given by Mr.Eddie Smith on a cricket web site that those bowlers who clock an average speed of 135kmph and above shall be called genuinely fast? This titling is intriguing as normally scorers/computer titlers call bowlers "FAST" based on their past reputation only. for example Allan Donald bowling at 133kmph is fast whereas Zaheer Khan bowling around 138/140kmph is Fast Medium. Please spare a thought and give your views. Thank you
Mohandas Menon:
You are absolutely right when you say that a bowler is normally termed "fast" based on his reputation and not by his current speed. Some classic examples were the cases of New Zealander Richard Hadlee and West Indian Courtney Walsh. During the early part of their career they were termed as "fast", and when they switched to "fast-medium" stuff at the later stage in their career, they were still termed as "fast". Another example was England's Brian Statham, who began his career as a fast bowler and then went on to bowl at medium pace. He was still termed as a "fast bowler".

Question:I just want to know whether Japan and South Korea have ICC membership or not. If not , are there any clubs playing cricket in these countries at least? Kindly let me know.
Mohandas Menon:
Japan became an Affiliate Member of the ICC in 1989, although South Korea is yet to be given any such status. Club cricket is being played in these countries by expatriates from the Commonwealth nations. In fact cricket has been played in Japan as early as 1863. In the recent years (since 1993) a competition is being held in Japan and some decent University sides have emerged from this tournament.
Name:Sriram
Question:Who was the first cricketer to be declared out by the Third Umpire ? Thanks, Sriram,
Mohandas Menon:
Sachin Tendulkar, who was run-out in the Durban Test match in 1992-93. This was the Test match in which the third (TV) umpire was first used in international cricket.
