Zim-WI Test series to be named after Lloyd
The West Indian and Zimbabwean cricket authorities have decided to name the trophy to be awarded in all Tests between the two squads as the Clive Lloyd trophy, Caribbean cricket authorities said on Friday.
The first trophy, named after the former captain, will be given to the winner of the series curently underway between the teams in Africa, West Indies Cricket Board President Wes Hall said.
The West Indies won the first Test in Zimbabwe. The first day of the second Test began yesterday, with the Caribbean squad off to a commanding start.
All future winners of the Test series will also receive the Clive Lloyd Trophy, which depicts Lloyd in a batting stance, Hall said.
Lloyd, 57, who retired from Test cricket in 1985, is in Zimbabwe to present the trophy to the winning team.
"Clive Lloyd was the vanguard of the greatest era of West Indies cricket and he is one of the most respected names in international cricket. He is truly deserving of this honour," Hall said.
Lloyd was known for his powerful batting and his ability as captain to unite the West Indies team in the late 1970s and early 1980s. Lloyd was the first West Indian to win 100 Test caps.
