Infamous bookie Mukesh Gupta known as "MK" and "John" has turned down the ICC's request for an informal chat. He is also not likely to respond to the BCCI inquiry commissioner K Madhavan's call. Since neither have any legal binding on him they are unable to force him to make an appearance.

The Scotland Yard had arrested alleged bookie Sanjeev Chawla in North London in December. Chawla (33) who runs a clothing business store in Central London was arrested in his home in Hendon.


Australian skipper Steve Waugh said in Brisbane that he would miss Australia's next two matches in the Carlton One-day Series because of a groin strain. Deputy Adam Gilchrist will lead the side in his absence.

The BCCI has decided to conduct an elbow examination to determine the exact age of players in a bid to solve the problem of overage. In recently concluded finals of the Cooch-Behar (Under-19) Trophy both the finalists Madhya Pradesh and Haryana accused each other of fielding overage players.

The CBFS, Sharjah has denied that they would declare Sarfaraz Nawaz as persona non grata if he were nominated as one of the beneficiaries. CBFS chief co-ordinaor Asif Iqbal said in Dubai that he was still not aware if the Pakistan Board has nominated Sarfaraz, as they are yet to receive the list of nominations from the Pakistan Board. Majid Khan however who was earlier nominated declined the benefit saying he will not accept money from any other country than his own.

The meeting of Sports Ministers from all Test playing countries, which the South African minister Ngconde Balfour had proposed to host in Johannesburg this month, will now take place later this year. The main objective of the meeting was to find ways in which Governments can deal with the issue of match fixing in the wake of investigations that have uncovered the involvement of cricketers.

With a month left for the Australians to arrive in India, the ACB's chief Malcolm Speed is in India to find potential sponsors for this team. He refused to comment on BCCI's confusion with the dates confirming that he was here seeking sponsors and not sorting out dates.

Curtly Ambrose, the burly West Indian fast bowler who retired from Test Cricket was recently presented with two car licence plates: AMBI 405 (indicating his haul of Test wickets) and AMBI 98 (indicating the number of Tests he has played in).
