Sunil Gavaskar in forex probe
The Enforcement Directorate, which polices the country's currency laws, said on Friday it had questioned cricket legend and former captain Sunil Gavaskar over an alleged violation of foreign exchange rules.
A senior Enforcement Directorate official, who did not want to be identified, said Gavaskar was questioned on Thursday over the alleged violation.
Under the regulations, Indians can hold no more than $2,000 in foreign currency or travellers' cheques.
Gavaskar could not be reached for comment.
The batsman, who commands a huge fan following, holds a world record for scoring 34 test centuries and was the first in the game's history to cross 10,000 test runs.
Gavaskar launched a highly successful career as television commentator after retiring from the game in 1987 and now heads the technical committee of the Indian cricket board.
