BCCI clarifies stand on honouring international commitments

The Board of Control for Cricket in India on Wednesday denied signing an undertaking at the recent International Cricket Council meeting in Melbourne that it is ready to be financially penalised for not honouring tour commitments as per the ten-year programme chalked out by the international body.

The BCCI was reacting to news reports in the Pakistani media which said the Indian board had agreed to face financial penalty for not honouring its international commitments.

Refuting the reports, BCCI secretary Jaywant Lele, who attended the Melbourne meeting, said: "We have not done so. On the other hand, we have told the ICC in very clear terms that we will fulfill the commitments only if the Indian government clears them."

Lele further informed that the Pakistan Cricket Board had indeed proposed the imposition of a financial penalty on countries not honouring commitments.

"There are several proposals at such meetings, but we have not agreed to this proposal," averred Lele.
