Fast bowler Jason Gillespie was cleared on Wednesday to join the Australian cricket team on their upcoming tour of India.

Gillespie has not played for a month after straining a hamstring tendon in the fifth Test against West Indies in Sydney, but passed a fitness test on Wednesday.

Jason GillespieThe Australian squad to tour India will be named on Thursday with Gillespie certain to be picked.

"I feel really good after two long bowling sessions," the Australian fast bowler said.

"I've been working hard on the maintenance programme I was given after I suffered the injury in Sydney and it has brought me back to full strength."

Australian team physiotherapist Errol Alcott said: "It has come along well. I'm satisfied with his recovery."

"It's promising that he has pulled up well from the bowling sessions."

Gillespie's availability is a big boost to the Australians after strike bowler Brett Lee was ruled out of the tour to have surgery on his injured right elbow.
