Mumbai beat Gujarat by five wickets
Skipper Samir Dighe's masterly knock of 68 (off 72 balls) helped Mumbai beat Gujarat by five wickets in the Ranji trophy one-day league tournament at the Wankhede stadium in Mumbai on Wednesday.
Batting first, Gujarat posted a total of 222 runs in 50 overs, losing
eight wickets.
Ajit Agarkar bowled superbly, scalping three wickets for 27runs in his allotted 10 overs
He was well-supported by Paras Mhambre, who claimed two
wickets. However, Mhambre was a bit expensive, conceding 67
runs in the eight overs he bowled.
Stylish batsman Tejas Varsani's 65 not out (off 80
balls) helped Gujarat reach 222.
Earlier, Gujarat opener Vivek Parikh scored a breezy 50
off 35 balls, including six fours and two sixes.
Other notable contributions for Gujarat were from Kirat Damani, who scored 40 off 44 balls, and left-hander Niraj Patel, who made 26.
Mumbai, chasing Gujarat's 222, lost Robin Morris early. Morris scored just one run.
However, opener Wasim Jaffar made 65, which had four fours, to help the hosts recover.
Vinod Kambli failed to make an impression, getting out for six.
Dighe, ably supported by Sairaj Bahutule, who scored 30
(off 33 balls), surpassed the visitor's total in the 47th
over.
