'Bull mkts can double Index'

Mumbai, December 30, 2003: 'Trick in bull markets is to buy with conviction and hold till the end,' says Ramesh Shrichand Damani.

Anand  :  Godrej industries has fallen today to Rs. 68. Shall i hold it. I have purchased for Rs. 74
Ramesh S Damani  :  Hello everyone. Thanks for joining. Let's start. Insiders are buying at Rs 70. So let's hold on. I own it.

sharad  :  With todays movements Do you think that we the small investor, having made investments at very low level can start the process of booking atleast 20-30% profit???????
Ramesh S Damani  :  That depends on your personal situation and conviction. Bull market may have a long way to go.

sudipto  :  Sir which sectors, stocks do u fell will perform well in the next 2 years. What is your view om Glaxo avantis and ranbaxy.
Ramesh S Damani  :  They are all good companies. I would buy some entertainment stocks and FMCG.

dc  :  Mr. Damani, do u think partial profit booking should be done in investment stocks which have grown 2 to 3 times in this rally?
Ramesh S Damani  :  There is no correct answer to your question. Depends on the stock and your conviction in it.

chintan  :  Hello Sir ur 3 pics for 2004
Ramesh S Damani  :  Nothing new. Some of the old stocks like Balaji etc look good.

baracuda  :  what is the impact of arun bajoriasaquisition of balaji shares in the marketdo yu still see value and would yu recomend abuy at 100
Ramesh S Damani  :  I still like it at current levels. Bajoria is an investor in it. It's not a take over bid so there is no great impact.

Avinashi  :  Sir, I hv invested lots of money in Godrej but last two days pirce confusing .... shall I exit?
Ramesh S Damani  :  That is for you to decide. Analyse why you invested in the first place. Think over your investments thoroughly.

baracuda  :  shree raj has of late had a good run would yu be tempted to sellor does convictionand improving business still hold good
Ramesh S Damani  :  I did book some partial profits in it.

MIC  :  SIR, WHICH SECTOR DO YOU THINK WILL DO WELL IN NEXT 2 YEARS? ANY SPECIFIC COMPANY YOU ARE RECOMENDING FOR 2-3 YEARS INVESTMENT?
Ramesh S Damani  :  I have written a column for moneycontrol, which states some themes for next year and some stock ideas.

BASANTMAHESHWARI  :  I want you to answer this one please. If someone has made 160% returns in the current rally on his total portfolio 1)Is the return good enough or just about like everyone else since the index has gone double and 2) WHat kind of a return should one have to be satisfied Till date. Please answer
Ramesh S Damani  :  160% is a great return and one must be proud of it. No absolute return is good., the trick in bull markets is to buy with conviction and hold till the end of the bull market, I repeat bull markets know no tops bear markets no bottoms.

chanda  :  hello which stock we buy now and forget for sometime and do not lookfo day to day movement but still give good return
Ramesh S Damani  :  Gillette, Monsanto -- over 2-3 year view could be looked at.

kaviji  :  Sir, I, infact all of my friends have a great respect for you. Every day we talk about in our campus. Could you suggest on Nucleus Software, Veronica Lab, Haria Export and Hind Zinc
Ramesh S Damani  :  Thanks. Which campus are you studying in? Other than Haria, which I don't follow the rest look okay.

kvg  :  sirrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr, please throw some light on patel roadways .can we consider investments in this scrip
Ramesh S Damani  :  I don't follow it, I believe it is in transportation/logistics. It is pretty cheap as memory may recollect.

anaam  :  Sir,Are you following SINTEX(old Bharat Vijay)? What is new in it?
Ramesh S Damani  :  New buyer has emerged and the company is doing well. They have a large debt component.

Kana  :  Monsanto will be in Trade to Trade DO you think there will be a great opportunity to buy at lower levels?
Ramesh S Damani  :  I doubt it. It is not very liquid.

kvg  :  sirrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr , is there is any small stock which is equivalent to Container Corporation, where i can invest in.
Ramesh S Damani  :  Gati is a poor man's Container. At Rs 50 cr market cap it is good value.

kaviji  :  In our WIPRO campus Sir. By the way could you please advise us on Haria export next time...please
Ramesh S Damani  :  I'll try to look into it.

dc  :  Do u think Lupin & Glenmark is fundamentally strong? Waht do u advise as holds for midcap pharma?
Ramesh S Damani  :  Yes they are doing well. I own a small quantity of both. I would hold both.

RameshA  :  Sir, Do you agree the Mkt would reach 6k mark?
Ramesh S Damani  :  The odds are high. We will see that in Jan.

Farooqwala  :  Due to hectic business schedule, I find time to chat with you to get good advise and information about the market which resulting me in a very big way. As per your valuable advice, I had bought 1000 balaji at 75 - million thanks Could pls add more scrips to enable me to invest further, can i go for HFCL now?
Ramesh S Damani  :  Thanks. Balaji looks like iillgo higher over time. I am not upbeat about hfcl

charliemunger  :  At the cost of sounding like I'm preaching to you...I think you are missing the Auto Ancillary story...There are some tremendous companies in the TVS, Rane group and others like Auto Axles which are positioned to become global players in next decade... Why do you ignore this sector ? This is not a pure export story as domestic demand (2,3,4 wheeler) shd be high if earning power goes up & inyterest rates remain low..
Ramesh S Damani  :  I think you are right. I bought and sold Bharat Forge and a few others but lacked the conviction. It is ruthless, a price competitive industry. And globally suppliers are shrinking. I did not believe in India's competitive advantage in manufacturing. However it seems I missed something.

newkid  :  sir i want to write to you about mukta arts. but i do not have your email address. So please forward me your email address
Ramesh S Damani  :  Can you share it out here.

baracuda  :  are yu unduly worried about gails ipoor is it a positive for the stock
Ramesh S Damani  :  It will create an overhang particularly for ONGC. However, IPO appetite globally is enormous at the current time.

RAGI  :  Hello BIG D, Are you still bullish on MCD, UB??????
Ramesh S Damani  :  Yes.

kvg  :  sirrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr, are u still tracking Ultra Marine Pigments. If you are tracking then please answer this . Is there any competition from China dyes company. Can we consider investing in this for a long time
Ramesh S Damani  :  I do follow it. The ITES division is doing well, I am not sure about the dyes business. I own it.

NewbieatStock  :  Sir Zodiac mcap of 100cr now, still has some way to go, do u think its low liquidity could be a problem at higher levels ?
Ramesh S Damani  :  Management may get in a strategic investor or give a bonus to enhance liquidity.

BASANT  :  This weekend I did a small study I looked at the likes of Lever Hero Honds Reddy Ranbaxy and found that the Companies with the smallest market caps gave the maximum returns You would be surprised to note that the maximum money at todays prices since 1985 has been made in Hero Honds Dr Reddy and Ranbaxy not Lever and Nestle as most people tend to believe I will send you a copy of that if you suiggest.Trick is to look for a sub 100 cr Company growing at 25% odd REST WILL BE HISTORY...
Ramesh S Damani  :  Pretty much, but finding them is like finding a needle in a hay stack. Remember you need a management that delivers also.

chintu  :  Sir, my friend told me that you have suggested Veronic Lab, I have blindly trusted as I always believe you. Could you comment on Veronic Lab please, it is at 16 now
Ramesh S Damani  :  I am sorry, I have not invested in it.

small  :  (15th time)suggest some companies which u expect r going to comeout with exceptional 3rd qtr results and therefore need to be watched carefully?
Ramesh S Damani  :  It seems everything is discounted at the current time, it's hard to find a sector that is ignored.

kcs  :  sirrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr, since you are best in ITES sector . are u still tracking your scrip carborundum . can we invest in that at this price
Ramesh S Damani  :  Yes. I am holding Carborundum at current levels but not buying.

narayan  :  are u still convinced about macmillan
Ramesh S Damani  :  Yes.

kcs  :  sirrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr, How about tvs electronics . can we go after that
Ramesh S Damani  :  I am going to wait for the results before commenting.

MALIK  :  SIR , u ARE BULLISH ON ENTERTAINMENT SECTOR.aPART FROM BALAJI STOCK, WHICH OTHER STOCK U WILL RECOMMEND.IS IT TRUE THAT MUKTA ARTS IS SHIEFTED TO TRADE TO TRADE. WHETHER IT IS WORTH INVESTMENT
Ramesh S Damani  :  Mukta, HTMT look okay to me.

medha  :  ripened mangoes are plucked but cherrys are yet to ripen .to me cherry in the mkt seems to be VINTA LABS ,LOGIX MICRO, KALYANI STEELS your words of approval or otherwise...wii be obliged
Ramesh S Damani  :  I like and own Logix among the ones mentioned.

charudatt  :  sir , what is your opinion on ingersoll rand and chambal fertilizer . i have maximum holding in these two stocks
Ramesh S Damani  :  Both look good to me.

narayan  :  do u think nalco is in the same category as bel was 2 year ago
Ramesh S Damani  :  No. Bel is intellectually driven. Nalco is a commodity stock.

SBHATT  :  Do you think sir, this quarter result of ESERVE will be better then the previous one???
Ramesh S Damani  :  Yes.

NewbieatStock  :  sir you were one of the first to come out and say the market would go to 6000 (although not too far away) where do u see the market in the next 12 months say jan 2005.
Ramesh S Damani  :  Bull markets can double the index. You do the maths.

Ramesh S Damani  :  Yes it is a value buy.

NewbieatStock  :  sir i was looking at the liqour mcap in other emerging markets, and its significantly high compared to ours
Ramesh S Damani  :  By a very large margin.

kcs  :  sirrrrrrrrrrrrrr, is there any clarity in Opto Circuits bonus news . If we buy now can we get bonus shares. is it worth buying at these levels. Ramesh S Damani  :  It is already ex-bonus.

Farooqwala  :  , Damaniji, what is your view on MRPL, Godrej and Goldiam at this level?
Ramesh S Damani  :  I like both Godrej and Goldiam.

balchan  :  do you believe the walmart outsourcing story? if this is the case, do you think leather companies such as Bhartiya look good?
Ramesh S Damani  :  Yes. Though I am not sure who benefits, it does make sense.

Ahmedabadguy  :  Sir what happens to company like Hindustan construction(div. payout 4 rs., EPS of Sir Do you have any openion on investing in Hind. Constr.(rs. 4 dividend current rate 125 rs) Just shifted to Trade to Trade..I find it multi bagger investment in next 2 years..
Ramesh S Damani  :  I agree, construction stocks are entering a sweet spot. Some exposure is recommended.

BullishONIndia  :  is kingfisher properties likely to wipe out its losses this dec end quarter? how's the outlook for its earnings growth for next year?
Ramesh S Damani  :  It is a value bet not an earnings story at the current time.

tommy  :  SIR, Damnji, Ratings on CMC & Veronica Lab please!!!!!

BASANT  :  Looking at construction stocks a copany like Nagarjuna with 30 crores in its balance sheet goes in for private placeent.WHy?Just because markets are booming and stocks can be sold high.Is this not bad
Ramesh S Damani  :  They believe they need a kitty to bid for large projects.

ks  :  Sir are you aware on India Nippon Electricals ltd. its group of TVs. and its doing very well.
Ramesh S Damani  :  Yes I own it. The stock has shot up last few weeks.

NewbieatStock  :  would u prefer hindustan construction or nagarjuna construction at current levels and why ?
Ramesh S Damani  :  Both look good, also look at Simplex Construction.

baracuda  :  yu rarely talk about the probable next big india specific story thats generics-pharma the likes of shasun divi matrix granulesand not to forget the reddys and the ranbaxys are yu like the auto ancillaryalso missing the bus here also
Ramesh S Damani  :  To be fair I missed that story also I follow the large caps - Dr Reddy's, Ranbaxy etc.
