'Sensex should touch 5000'

Mumbai, October 14, 2003: 'Short term the move should be lead by SBI, Tisco and the like,' says Ramesh Shrichand Damani.

lalit   :  what is your price target for sundaram finance
Ramesh S Damani   :  I am bullish on the prospects for the next few years. They are doing well and we should not predict prices at this time.

supria   :  sir can i have ur call on cipla, glenmark and wockhardt has the pharama rally started
Ramesh S Damani   :  I think the sector will do well. I own Glenmark. I think outsourcing is a major theme for all of them.

rudvannistelroy   :  hello mr r damaniare yu there, why is ub beer coming out with 2.13crs of reedemable optionally convertible debentures, are we entitled for this and will it bloat up the equity of the co,how does scottish and newcastle allow such things
Ramesh S Damani   :  It is being done to give Scottish and Newcastle share. If they had bought 26% equity it would have meant giving an open offer, which they wanted to avoid.

sanujkadavil   :  sir looking to shot term .last six month fii money fueled the market.but december fiis may go to vacation and christmas ,obviously they may take some profit on november onwards .so its a time to exit market and reenter january
Ramesh S Damani   :  It's never a good idea to time a bull market. In a bull market you should have conviction and stay invested.

lata   :  Sir, i have logged in for the first time. I have Satyam Shares and Adlabs with me. Kindly suggest me should i hold the same for some time? What would be their performance. Can i go for Balaji Tele & Vijay Bank
Ramesh S Damani   :  Investments are not so easily explained. You need to find your own logic for owning something. I like Balaji and own it if that is of some help.

vg   :  sir,do u still recommend godrej industries @52
Ramesh S Damani   :  Yes

vikas   :  How is Infosys result. Are you satisfied with their margins. Is there any indiaction that worst is over and we may have better times ahead for IT / ITES
Ramesh S Damani   :  The results were in line with expectations. However, the rising rupee is a big factor. It is keeping us guessing on future margins.

paulscoles   :  mico did touch 10200 yesterdayin the long run do yu see more upside for the stock ,what is driving it up,for 2004it appears it is tradingat a forward pemultipleof rs10.so can we buy it in this correction
Ramesh S Damani   :  I think fundamentals are strong and they will do well in the coming year based on exports and domestic growth.

vivek   :  sir what is your call on hidalco and nalco... please reply
Ramesh S Damani   :  Alumunium stocks are doing well.

SINGARAJUTR   :  Dear sir.Good evening. This question is about SPANCO.What is keeping you on the fence so long?.AT daily volume of 25-30k,is there any liquidity concern?.Or any issues reg. quality of management or about biz. model?. PLEASE GUIDE SIR.
Ramesh S Damani   :  Unfortunately I have not come to a view on it yet.

csk14   :  sir,Why you are recommending Godrej Industries? I saw it under Chemical industries. Does it mean all Chemical industreis stock does perform well?
Ramesh S Damani   :  It is a divesified company well into chemicals, food, real estate. Also some intriguing IT assets. The company is cheap. I own it.

SINGARAJU R   :  Sir.Regarding MCDOWELL.How is the distribution of liqior done in deregulated markets?.Do you expect it is going to available in street stores like cigars ?.
Ramesh S Damani   :  Not quite but they will be more easily available.

rudvannistelroy   :  i heard uday kotak say oncnbc that the sensex may touch the 5digit markover a period of time, this is the first bull marketpurely on home grown fundasand india inc has finally woken upprevios bull markets were mostly scams and the last was an infotech bubble
Ramesh S Damani   :  That is a good summation. Market looks on a good wicket.

vikas   :  Is UB one of core holding and is it good to invest at this rate
Ramesh S Damani   :  Yes it is and I would. But be patient.

ChennaiBoy   :  Is Bharti Tele a good investemnt ?
Ramesh S Damani   :  Over a 3-year view yes.

murthi   :  Sir, what would be you advice for a fresh investmentin stocks, considering the bullish trend?. Will the sexsex go beyond 5000 mark?. What would be your picks for shot term gains at this moment?
Ramesh S Damani   :  It should get to the 5000-mark. Short term the move should be lead by SBI, Tisco and the like. I own all of them.

paulscoles   :  when the entire market was down mcmillan has been up 7%today finally has some fund noticed itand when are the resultsand what do yu expect them to deliver
Ramesh S Damani   :  Results should be strong this quarter from a loss to a profit. ITES business is doing well. I remain optimistic on its prospects.

sanujkadavil   :  sir any idea about eveready industries .this 1000crore consumer durable giant valued only 150 crores.they have a debt of 750 crores.management have take some steps to improve exports. do you have any idea on that
Ramesh S Damani   :  Have not read about it recently.

vikas   :  With Bombardier deal , Does Infotech enterprises makes entry into your buying list. I have 1000 shares at 120, shall i hold
Ramesh S Damani   :  I own a small quantity and am watching it. Bombardiers' entry helps them.

rudvannistelroy   :  do yu repent selling man industries its results may be good and so might be the future looking at the plans gail has for this country
Ramesh S Damani   :  They have done well and pipeline of orders remains strong.

simplify   :  Mr Damani - have you looked at Sandesh ? Guajarati newspaper/media house. Very strong financials, good dividend yield. Seems to be an ignored value pick !
Ramesh S Damani   :  Not recently. I will reexamine it.

kkk   :  sir, any idea about videocon international
Ramesh S Damani   :  They should post good numbers.

Ahmedabadguys   :  Sir are you just holding on to your portfolio or have you switched some???
Ramesh S Damani   :  Basically holding on.

mayur   :  Sir, how would you rate Mcdowell, Shaw Wallace, Radico Khaitan, and United Breweries?
Ramesh S Damani   :  UB, McDowell, Shaw Wallace and Radico. I own them all.

simplify   :  Mr Damani - looks like your research does not cover the capital goods industry. Indian manufacturing will pick - commodity boom followed by capital investments. Example - Thermax, Alfa Laval, Cummins, Kirloskar Oil etc.. Any views ?
Ramesh S Damani   :  I think you are right, they all seem to be doing well.

vikas   :  AGAIN   :  YOUR 5 TOP PICKS AT THIS POINT AS I WANT TO INVEST 5 LACS AND YOUR SUGGESTION WOULD HELP ME A LOT
Ramesh S Damani   :  I recommend ideas as I get them. My latest has been Godrej industries, the rest you can read my transcripts.

NKumar   :  Without FIIs buying in do you think the market would have reached this level purely based on domestic funds and retail investors?
Ramesh S Damani   :  In a bull market buyers emerge. The FII's may have causes the market to go faster they did not cause the market to be bullish.

Ahmedabadguys   :  Sir DO you see market is overbaught situation currently where may be lot weak hands( retail traders) might have built up positions in Future/option market now and this month end can take the market down drastically???
Ramesh S Damani   :  That will get sorted out as long as the trend is bullish.

simplify   :  Rakesh JhunJhunwala says (Capitalideasonline.com) that for us to pronounce a bull market, 4600 shd not be taken out on the downside. Do you think 4600 will hold in this much awaited correction?
Ramesh S Damani   :  I think we may have closed the books on 3500-4000 on the index. If another Sept 11 happens we could quickly fall below 4500.

narayan   :  u have recommended htmt for trading i have taken 1500 @ 204 have u booked profit in it what should i do please tell
Ramesh S Damani   :  Good. Keep looking for new ideas.

kamaraju   :  Dear Damani sir, How is Nalco and Tata sponge from 6 months point of view as Mr. Faber once told that commodity stocks look good
Ramesh S Damani   :  They have had a good run.

KESHAV   :  Damani Ji ,, asking for 8th time please answer... I am new to invest in Stocks, any three stocks I should start with
Ramesh S Damani   :  Godrej Industries, Sundaram Finance and Morgan Stanley Growth Fund. I recently bought all three.

bhaveshpatel   :  Can I buy Morgan Stanley Growth Fund at 13.30 and Zicom Electronics at 40/- Rameshbhai?
Ramesh S Damani   :  Morgan is a great bet. I own it.

Ahmedabadguys   :  Mr. Damani I think when you rated Macdowell to radico In terms of company sizes..But I think Radico investors are going to be rewarded more as management is more vibrant for doing that???Your openion???
Ramesh S Damani   :  Inn the short run yes. However, McDowell owns 35% of the Indian liquor market. Too big a prize to ignore.

mayur   :  Sir, one of your friends in CNBC had recommended Tele Data Inc at Rs. 33 levels, but it is Rs. 24 now. Where does the problem lie actually, fundamentally the company is doing very well?
Ramesh S Damani   :  The company needs to raise some money so it may be exerting pressure on the price.

narayan   :  thats why i have asked for max india bcoz it has a stake in hutch what u have said i will try
Ramesh S Damani   :  Stake and a good insurance business.

simplify   :  Also RJ is extremely bullish on 2nd line Indian Pharma. Based on sound logic I think - they are opting to co-exist with the powerful MNCs (thru contract , clinical research etc) rather than headlong collision like Reddys... Do you agree and any picks ?
Ramesh S Damani   :  I agree with the logic but the scripts have had a huge run. Over some time Lupin, IPCA may be looked at. However, not at the current levels.

mayur   :  Sir, what about Opto Circuits and Macmillan. Shall we wait for the bonus issue of Opto which is on 11 of next month or sell it before if it rises? I still hold Macmillan. Today, Macmillan was great at the bourses. What is the reason sir? Can we still hold Macmillan or book profits?
Ramesh S Damani   :  I would hold on to both at the current time.

kkk   :  sir, please , will the divestment of madras fertilizers happens
Ramesh S Damani   :  No one is bidding so it is hard.

bhaveshpatel   :  Rameshbhai I amasking again can I buy Morgan Stanley Growth Fund at 13.30 and Zicom at 40/-
Ramesh S Damani   :  I like morgan.

paulscoles   :  did yu know that one norway based pharma co had offered matrix labs 200crs just to stop manufacturing the generic version of citalopram an anpsychiatric medecine
Ramesh S Damani   :  Yes. It is known to the market.

narayan   :  sundaram fin has spurted on all a sudden as per your advice in the last chat i have taken 700 shares at 154 its a great call from you i want to know about the co. abouts its buiseness
Ramesh S Damani   :  They do have finance. They have interest in home, car and insurance and a nascent BPO business. I own it.

rakshesh   :  sir, what do mean by that company wants to raise money, so it is excerting pressure on price ( teledata) How can it raise money by excerting the pressure on its own price?
Ramesh S Damani   :  Old sellers may sell because they fear an overhand or don't agree with management prospects.

newbieeatstock   :  sir 50 % of my holding is mcdowell i havnet invested much u think i should change the allocation a bit.
Ramesh S Damani   :  Unfortunately McDowell will test our patience. If you cannot wait diversify into something else.

Ahmedabadguys   :  Mr. Damani as an outsourcing story dark horse Indian Organic Ltd.(Futura Poly now) was one likely contender last year untill contamination in resins problem took its toll on the company result.Any news on the counter now???
Ramesh S Damani   :  They seem to have got there act together.

SINGARAJU R   :  Reg. MC..Our culture so-much so-much vested with tradition and good morals- is always against mind-altering substances. From birth we are brought up with anti-liquir habits. It is not that the industry is not going to grow here. But, what I am trying to make is that the great changes will take very long time (several decades) to occur.CAN MC REWARD THAT KIND OF WAITING?.AND IS IT WORTH TO WAIT THAT LONG?
Ramesh S Damani   :  That has changed. At these prices a small shift would have huge impact on bottom line. All it takes is for Mallya to become serious.

kamaraju   :  Dabanji sir, Peoples say GNFC is a ver good and low cost producer of fertilisers in India, what is your view on this
Ramesh S Damani   :  They are likely to be divested and the rest is true. Thanks all for joining and see you next week.

mayur   :  Sir, any views on the housing finance stocks like LIC housing, GIC, Dewan and Can fin homes?
Ramesh S Damani   :  LIC, HDFC look good.
