Questions Dr Jagdish Shettigar did not answer

Sheila (Wed Nov 4 1998 7:15 IST)
Mr Shettigar: What is your government doing to cut down the prices of essential commodities?

Amartya (Wed Nov 4 1998 7:37 IST)
Prices have been going up for the past three months, yet you guys have done nothing. Is this because you guys are keen to let the banias who support you make some money while the BJP rule shines?

Khakhi Chaddi (Wed Nov 4 1998 7:38 IST)
Shettigarji: Namashkar. Don't you agree that the onion crisis is the result of 40 years of Congress misriule? How can they blame us -- the Sangh Parivar, that is -- for this price rise. Had the reins of government been with us all these years, we would havre provided why onions, even the most expensive vegetables at under rs 10 prices?

Ramola (Wed Nov 4 1998 7:49 IST)
Dr Shettigar: What is your stance on Ram Janambhoomi?

Praful (Wed Nov 4 1998 7:56 IST)
Dr Shettigar: The trouble is that your historians are trying to rewrite the history and spread your communal philsophy to the children. Agreed that Ram killed evil. But your historians are associating evil with muslims and Babars. And that's the danger to the unity of India and threat to the secular fabric of the society. Isn't it?

Sheila (Wed Nov 4 1998 8:7 IST)
Dr Shettigar: The RBI Credit policy did not do much to push the economy. You think the government must come with some policy asking banks to lend some money to industrialists which they are not doing at present?

Sheila (Wed Nov 4 1998 8:20 IST)
Dr Shettigar: It is being alleged that the traders are the supporters of the BJP. And they are hoarding the essential commodities and BJP is doing nothing about it?

Rajesh (Wed Nov 4 1998 8:26 IST)
Dr Shettigar: 100 billion Dollars, you must be joking? Today your government does not have guts to import vegetables inspite of the fact that they are having $ 27 billion of rupees. They are only interested in defending rupee. Also, don't you think rupee must be compared to the basket of currencies and not only dollar?

Sheila (Wed Nov 4 1998 8:31 IST)
Dr Shettigar: What will be the position of dollar after Euro comes into affect. And more importantly, how the rupee will judge its position. Don't you think it is extremely difficult task for your party to maintain rupee at the same level?

Sunil (Wed Nov 4 1998 8:36 IST)
Dr Shettigar: You are talking of internet when 95 percent of Indian population is not able to afford a computer?

Sanjai Kukreti (Wed Nov 4 1998 9:12 IST)
Sunil, come on now. We all know that it's mainly because of India's illustrious Fabian socialists that most of the country isn't able to afford a computer. Can't blame the reformers for the ills created by the Left.

Sanjai Kukreti (Wed Nov 4 1998 9:16 IST)
Look at the ridiculously prejudicial introduction that the would-be "professionals" at Rediff gave for this chat. "Obviously economics is not the BJP's strong suit"?? Come on, now -- we're obviously reaping the harvest of difficulties created by 50 years of socialist mismanagement, and the geniuses at Rediff are predictably engaging in shallow opportunism for partisan purposes once again.

Sanjai Kukreti (Wed Nov 4 1998 9:31 IST)
Hey Shiela, you want to talk about sops? Uhhh, why don't we take a small look at the quota system sometime? "I will raise your quota by %50 if you vote for me" is the typical campaign slogan of the left-wing parties. Pretty self-serving, don't you think?

jithu (Wed Nov 4 1998 9:33 IST)
Can u be more specific?
