The sedan segment in the Indian automobile market is seeing a lot of action with new launches happening and updates lined up for the entire year.
The overwhelming response to Toyota's recently launched sedan Etios hints at the rising buyer interest in sedans. In the wake of that a lot of carmakers have either updated their models or are planning to do so.

BMW 3 Series
The updated version of the BMW 3 Series is likely to be launched at Frankfurt in September.
The new 3 Series is speculated to have six-cylinder engines and probably a new range of four-cylinder engines.

The car is designed on a new modular platform and would be slimmer and more aggressive looking.
The car is likely to get a new wider grill and a longer wheelbase apart from several other designing changes.

Honda Civic
In the wake of stiff competition Honda has started taking whatever steps it can to keep the buyers interested in its products.
The company came up with a Honda Civic with a sunroof and also added Urban Titanium a new colour to the list. This manual transmission variant of the Honda Civic is priced at Rs 13.53 lakh (Rs 1.353 million) and the Honda Civic's automatic transmission version is priced at Rs.14.27 lakh (Rs 1.427 million) -- ex-showroom Delhi.

Currently, the Honda Civic is powered by an i-VTEC, 1.8L, 4-cylinder, in-line, 16 valves, petrol engine with 1,799 cc displacement, 132 PS maximum power at 6,300 rpm and 17.5 Kg-m torque at 4,300 rpm.

Toyota Corolla Altis
Toyota Kirloskar is speculated to launch a face-lifted Corolla Altis in the Indian sometime soon. The new face-lifted Altis is likely to have re-styled tail-lights and a vertically aligned chin.

A wider grille to compliment the chin is also likely to be one of the new features. The new Altis is have the same 1.8-litre petrol motor and the 1.4-litre common rail diesel unit.

Another car has now joined the 'Corporate Edition' brigade.
Skoda introduced the Laura TSi classic at 11.99 lakh (Rs 1.199 million) -- ex-showroom, Delhi -- recently.
The Laura classic is the base petrol variant and does not include features like front fog lamps, rear parking sensors, lumbar support adjustment for driver and front passenger seats.

Maruti Swift Dzire
The next generation Swift Dzire is based on the Suzuki Swift 2011 platform and is likely to be less than four metres!
This is a move to fight competition from Toyota Etios and it can make a lot of difference as with this the car will come under the small car category and attract only 10 per cent excise duty as against the current 22 per cent. This could translate to a cost cut of about Rs 40,000.

The Dzire comes with 84bhp 1.2 petrol and a 75bhp 1.3 turbo-diesel engines that is expected to stay, but a 90bhp Fiat diesel motor might find its way in. the new Dzire would be developed only for the Indian market.
