Mumbai has been ranked as the most liveable city in India. The city has jumped two places to grab the top position on the Liveability Index 2013, says the Institute for Competitiveness.
The fourth edition of Liveability index has unveiled the list of top 50 liveable Indian cities. The Liveability index not only measures the quality of life of a region but also takes into consideration the other crucial factors of development essential for the citizens.
The model is based on eight core pillars that are demographic, education, health and medical standards, safety, housing option, socio-cultural-natural environment, economic environment, and planned environment.
The bottom five cities on the liveability index 2013 are Agra, Raipur, Asansol, Kanpur and Patna.

Mumbai (Rank 1)
India’s financial capital has performed well on pillars such as demographics, health & medical standards.
One of India's wealthiest cities, it has an excellent transportation network and a good business environment. Mumbai lags in some parameters like housing, socio-cultural-natural environment and safety.
Three cities from Maharashtra are in the top 20 list.

Chennai (Rank 2)
Chennai, capital of Tamil Nadu has slipped one position from last year’s rank.

New Delhi (Rank 5)
India’s capital city is back in the top 10 list of most livable cities.
