Swiss cities top the list of the highest paying cities. This highlights the fact that people in Western European cities on average earn four times more than their peers in Eastern Europe, states a UBS study on price and earnings.
Their dominance is compounded by the fact that, in Switzerland, deductions from salary are relatively low, which further widens the gap between Net wage level earned there and in other countries, especially in the rest of Western Europe.
The largest wage differences are in Asia, where the highest value (Tokyo) is twelve times higher than the lowest (Delhi).
Gross wage level are closest together in the more homogenous region of North America, with wage levels in New York just 1.3 times higher than Montreal, says the UBS study.
Net wage level is a good indicator of the budget that employees have available to spend.
