The country's largest car maker Maruti Suzuki India (MSI) on Friday reported 7.89 per cent decline in its total sales at 109,567 units in February 2013.
The company had sold 118,949 units in the corresponding month last year, MSI said in a statement.
In February this year, MSI had recorded domestic sales of 97,955 units compared to 107,653 units in the year-ago period, registering a fall of 9.01 per cent, it added.
MSI's exports, however, went up by 2.80 per cent to 11,612 units last month from 11,296 units in the year-ago period, the company said.
Total passenger car sales in the domestic market dipped by 10.89 per cent to 83,865 units from 94,118 units in the same month of 2012.
Sales of the company's mini-segment cars, including M800, A-Star, Alto and WagonR, fell by 15.87 per cent to 41,311 units during the month from 49,104 units in February 2012.

Maruti sales fall 8%

In the compact segment (comprising Estilo, Swift and Ritz models), MSI witnessed a dip of 13.90 per cent in sales to 24,021 units from 27,899 units in the same month a year ago.
Sales of MSI's DZiRE model increased by 21.56 per cent to 18,316 units in February from 15,068 units in the same month last year, it added.
MSI's mid-sized sedan SX4 sales went down by 89.42 per cent to 215 units last month from 2,033 units in February 2012, the company said.
Luxury sedan Kizashi witnessed two buyers during the month as against sale of 14 units in the year-ago period, down 85.71 per cent.
MSI also sold 5,957 units of utility vehicles, comprising Gypsy, Ertiga and Grand Vitara, compared to 230 units in the year-ago period, registering a rise of nearly 26-fold.
Sales of Omni and Eeco, however, dipped by 38.87 per cent to 8,133 units from 13,305 units in February 2012.

Hyundai Motor sales up 5%

The country's second-largest car maker Hyundai Motor India Ltd (HMIL) reported 5.42 per cent rise in its total sales at 54,665 units in February 2013.
The company had sold 51,855 units in the corresponding month previous year, HMIL said in a statement.
In the domestic market, the company recorded a decline of 7.62 per cent in sales at 34,002 units compared to 36,805 units in the year-ago period, it added.
Exports of the company went up by 37.30 per cent to 20,663 units during the month under review from 15,050 units in the same period previous year, the statement said.
"The market was suppressed as there was drop in enquiries with lower rates of conversions to purchase. The increase in fuel prices negatively impacted the already low market sentiments," HMIL vice president (Sales and Marketing) Rakesh Srivastava said.
The company expects the challenge to continue in the next quarter until there is a significant change in macro-economic conditions, he added.
In the A2 segment (Eon, Santro, i10 and i20), the company sold 46,387 units, while sales in the A3 segment (Accent and Verna) stood at 7,722 units in February 2013.
The company sold 66 units of the sports utility vehicle Santa Fe during the month. Sales of luxury sedan Sonata stood at 20 units, while Elantra witnessed 470 purchases.

Tata Motors sales down 33%

Tata Motors reported 32.70 per cent decline in total vehicle sales at 61,998 units for February 2013.
The company had sold 92,119 units in the same month last year, Tata Motors said in a statement.
The total passenger vehicle sales in the domestic market stood at 10,613 units in February, down 69.53 per cent from 34,832 units in the same month last year.
In the commercial vehicles segment, the company's sales dipped by 8.64 per cent to 47,389 units in the domestic market during the month under review compared to 51,872 units in the corresponding period last year.
The company's exports decreased by 26.20 per cent to 3,996 units last month from 5,415 units in the same month last year, it added.

Mahindra & Mahindra posts 11% jump in sales

Auto-maker Mahindra & Mahindra reported 10.99 per cent increase in its total sales at 47,824 units in February 2013.
The company had sold 43,087 units in the same month in 2012, Mahindra & Mahindra (M&M) said in a statement.
"Our February 2013 performance is reflective of the customers' preference for our products, for which we thank them," M&M Chief Executive (Automotive Division) Pravin Shah said.
In the domestic market, the company registered a 9.73 per cent rise in sales to 44,399 units during the month compared to 40,461 units in the year-ago period, M&M said.
Total sales of passenger vehicles including Scorpio, XUV500, Xylo, Bolero and Verito, stood at 23,421 units as against 20,573 units in February 2012, translating into 13.84 per cent increase.
The company, however, said sales of its three-wheelers declined by 6.03 per cent to 4,803 units during February 2013 from 5,111 units in the same month last year.
Sales of the company's Gio and Maxximo mini-trucks and other four-wheeler commercial vehicles went up by 12.17 per cent last month to 15,167 units from 13,522 units in the year-ago period, the statement said.
Commercial vehicle sales from Mahindra Navistar Automotives Ltd stood at 1,008 units during the month as against 1,255 units in the same month a year ago, a fall of 19.68 per cent.
M&M's exports rose by 30.43 per cent to 3,425 units during the month from 2,626 units in February 2012.

Toyota Kirloskar domestic sales fall 23%

Toyota Kirloskar Motor reported 23.43 per cent decrease in its domestic car sales at 12,756 units in February 2013.
The company had sold 16,659 units in the corresponding month of previous year, Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) said in a statement.
During the month, the company exported 1,223 units of Etios series to South Africa, and hence the total sales registered in February this year stood at 13,979 units.
Commenting on numbers, TKM Deputy Managing Director and COO (Marketing and Commercial) Sandeep Singh said: "The market continues to remain sluggish and the with the additional excise duty levied on SUV and UV, the market will be further impacted."

Honda Cars domestic sales fall 26%

Honda Cars India Ltd (HCIL) reported 26.49 per cent decline in its domestic sales for February 2013 at 6,510 units.
The company had sold 8,856 units in the same month last year, HCIL said in a statement.
During the month, the company sold 3,271 units of its flagship sedan City and 2,916 units of its small car Brio. It also sold 185 units of the premium hatchback Jazz and 21 units of sedan Civic.
Besides, HCIL sold 62 units of the premium sedan Accord in February 2013.
In addition to these sales, the company also exported a total of 510 units during February 2013.

GM India sales down 20%

General Motors India reported 20.17 per cent decline in its sales at 7,106 units in February 2013.
The company had sold 8,901 units in the same month of 2012, General Motors India said in a statement.
"Although we have generated the volumes for Chevrolet Sail as expected, the overall numbers inclusive of other models were not on the expected lines as the market continues to remain subdued," GM India Vice President P Balendran said.
With excise duty also going up for certain categories of vehicles, the market is not expected to improve in the coming months also, as the macro economic uncertainties still continue, he added.
"The hike in excise duty for SUVs which is impacting other models as well has further dampened the growth prospects," Balendran said.

Renault India sales jump nearly 10-fold

Renault India on reported nearly 10-fold jump in sales in February this year at 6,723 units on the back of strong sales of its SUV Duster.
The company had sold a total of 673 vehicles during February 2012.
In February 2013, the sports utility vehicle (SUV) Duster accounted for 5,590 units, sedan Scala 620 units, compact car Pulse 420 units, sedan Fluence 65 units and SUV Koleos 28 units, Renault India said in a statement.
Commenting on the numbers, Renault India Executive Director (Marketing and Sales) Sumit Sawhney said: "Renault's continuing growth in India is a reflection of the increasing acceptance among customers as a strong player in the country's automotive space."
Renault cars are produced at the manufacturing facility located in Oragadam, Chennai, with a capacity of four lakh units per annum.

Ford India sales fall 30%
Car maker Ford India reported 30.42 per cent decline in its total sales in February this year at 7,253 units.
The company had sold a total of 10,424 units in the same month last year, Ford India said in a statement.
The domestic sales also went down by 44.12 per cent to 4,490 units in February this year as against 8,035 units in the same month last year, it added.
The company exported 2,763 units last month compared to 2,389 units in the year-ago period, registering a rise of 15.66 per cent.
Commenting on the sales performance, Ford India Executive Director (Marketing, Sales and Service) Vinay Piparsania said: "In the domestic market, we continue to witness some tough and challenging conditions...policy uncertainty and resulting lowered consumer confidence is impacting our business."
The company is in line with its strategy to aggressively expand in overseas markets to position India as a regional export hub for small cars, he added.
