The car in question is a 1964 Aston Martin DB5 used in the James Bond films 'Goldfinger' and 'Thunderball'.
Aaccording to British media the winning bidder was Ohio businessman Harry Yeaggy.

It was sold for $4,634,229 (including commission) at the RM Auctions Automobiles of London auction.
What adds to the exclusivity of the car is that it is the only remaining model of the two original 007 DB5s that appeared on-screen in the two Bond movies.

The 1964 Aston Martin DB5 that was auctioned, Chassis No.DB5/1486/R, 1964, engine: 400/1469/V, original UK Reg: FMP 7B, has a silver birch exterior paint, dark grey leather interiors, a 3,995 cc engine capable of producing power 282 bhp (210 kW) at 5500 rpm and torque of 288 lb ft (390 N m) at 3850 rpm.

It can achieve a top speed of 145 mph (233 km/h) and can do the 0 60 mph (97 km/h) sprint in 7.1 seconds.
The car also has five-speed manual transmission and four-wheel disc brakes.
The FMP 7B driven by Sean Connery in Goldfinger had the first Vantage engine of any DB5 and displays triple SU carbs rather than Webers.

Like in the movies, this DB5 comes equipped with the requisite spy gear, including machine guns, bulletproof shield, revolving license plate (complete with original U.K. registration FMP 7B), detachable roof panel, tracking device, oil slick sprayer, nail spreader, wheel scythes, and smoke screen emitter.

The car that was sold has all these movie gadgets that are still intact and functioning. But the guns don't fire and the ejection seat doesn't work.
The DB5 has been driven for approximately 30,000 miles and RM Auto Restoration have done the restoration work on the car.

Its previous owner, who had it since its days in the Bond films, was also an American - Philadelphia broadcasting executive Jerry Lee.
The DB5 was sold to Lee for $12,000 in 1969.
