Skoda Yeti is here! A complete overview

Even as reactions are still pouring in over the remarks made by Environment Minister Jairam Ramesh over 'diesel guzzling sports utility vehicles (SUVs)', yet another SUV makes it to the Indian showrooms.

This time it is the much talked about crossover from the Skoda stable -- the all new Yeti.

Engine

Skoda Yeti is powered by a 2.0 TDI common rail diesel engine that does duty in Superb and Laura.

But the engine in Yeti is capable of generating 140 bhp of max power and 32.4 kgm of peak torque at 1750 rpm.

Skoda is offering the Yeti with a six-speed manual transmission option. The crossover is capable of doing the 0 to 100 kph sprint under 11 seconds.

The figure is a class topping one and might please the speed freaks, who also have the crossover's top speed of 185 kph to drool over.

The crossover has low kerb weight of 1,543 kg that makes it pretty light and makes it a sprinter. Yeti is expected to give a mileage of about 11.2 kpl.

Exterior

The Yeti might have a bit odd-ball looks but some of the design elements give it a sporty feel.

The front is dominated by the aggressive looking grille surrounded by sporty headlamps and the Skoda embossed on the bonnet.

The headlamps sweep to the sides of the front part of the body and the crossover also has round lamps with integrated daytime running lights and fog lamps.

The rear lamps extend all the way up and form the letter 'C', when lit up.

Interior

The Yeti has a lot of designing cues from Laura and so the interiors might look a bit familiar. The overall built quality of the interiors is like what you have seen on other Skoda cars.

You will get leather upholstery on both the models of the car along with Varioflex seating. The instrument cluster is easy to operate and panels are easy to read.

There is a lot of space in the Yeti and to make room for lots of stuff you can fold the seats flat or unhinge them. There is good leg room on the rear seat and enough shoulder room as well. The crossover can easily seat five.

In the front there is space for a one litre bottle in the front door and drink holders on the central console.

It also has a foldable tray behind the rear seat, sunglass compartment in the roof panel and an extendable dividing net that separates the passenger space from the luggage compartment.

Accessories

The Skoda Yeti has an advanced integrated audio system with twelve speakers and a digital equaliser, or an MDI, to connect an external device.

The crossover also has a powerful climate control dual air conditioning system with HVAC (Heating, Ventilation and AC) with an air quality sensor.

It is an electronically-controlled dual-zone climate control air conditioning that automatically switches to internal circulation if the quality of air sucked in falls below set values, especially while driving in a tunnel or traffic jam.

It remains in this mode until sufficiently clean air can be sucked from outside.

Price

Skoda will launch the Yeti today (Nov 15) at a price of somewhere between Rs 15 lakh and Rs 18 lakh (Rs 1.5-1.8 million).
