5 top selling hatchbacks in India
Sales figures of the past three months suggest that hatchbacks are still the most preferred cars as far as Indians are concerned.
While sales of hatchbacks were quite impressive in February and March, the burden of excise duty had its toll, and in April, the figures were quite subdued.

Maruti Alto
In February 2012, 32,909 Altos were sold and in the very next month it went on to register sales of a bigger number - 35,245.
But in April, it sold merely 17,482 units.
However, total sales of these three months -- 85,636 units -- still make it the top gainer.

Maruti Swift
In February it sold 20,739 units, while in March a little drop was seen, at 20,571 units.
However, in April sales slipped further to 19,484 units. So with 60,744 units sold in the past three months, Swift is the second highest selling hatch in the Indian market.

Eon is the third highest selling hatchback in India registering sales of 31,521 units in the three months of February, March and April.
While it sold 10,480 and 12,500 units in February and March, respectively, in April it sold only 8,541 units.

Ford India rides on the strong shoulders of Ford Figo hatchback as it recorded sales of 5,812 units in April 2012, which is lesser, compared to March (7,073 units) and February (6,546 units).
Total sales in the past three months thus stood at 19,441 units.

Hyundai i20 is going all guns blazing with improved sales figures every month. In February it sold 4,844 units, recorded a good 6,235 sales in March' and 7,562 units in April.
