There is a recession in the Indian car market due to high interest rates on car loans and a rise in petrol prices.
Customers are, therefore, opting for diesel cars, and don't even mind the long waiting period.
According to market reports diesel car sales accounted for around 65-70 per cent of the total car sales in the first quarter of this year as against a mere 50 per cent during the same time last year.
Diesel is 40 per cent cheaper than petrol and some of the diesel cars are 30 per cent more fuel efficient as compared to their petrol variant.
Leading auto makers like Maruti Suzuki India and Ford India are facing supply crisis for their diesel cars and trying hard to meet the current market demand.
