Lacklustre day: Sensex ends flat

The Sensex on Thursday opened 27 points higher at 13,796 owing to subdued cues from the global markets.

The index  slipped into the negative zone due to selling in the markets and touched a low of 13,643 in late morning trades.

The Sensex thereafter rebounded into the positive zone and displayed lacklustre movement for most part of the day. The Intraday range for the day was 236 points and it touched a high of 13,879.

The Sensex finally ended flat at 13,757, down 11 points. The NSE Nifty ended flat at 4,081 points.

The BSE Metal added 1.5%, followed by Health care and FMCG indices up 1% each.

Consumer Durables and Capital Goods indices were down 1% each.

The market breadth was negative - out of 2,638 shares traded, 1,462 declined and 1,078 advanced on the BSE.

INDEX MOVERS...

Reliance Infrastructure and Sun Pharma advanced around 2.5% each to Rs 1,101 and Rs 1,170, respectively.

TCS and Sterlite added over 2% each to Rs 388 and Rs 557, respectively.

Tata Power and HDFC Bank increased over 1.5% each to Rs 1,099 and Rs 1,399, respectively.

Jaiprakash Associates, Reliance and Hero Honda were up 1% each.

...AND THE SHAKERS

Tata Motors slipped 3% to Rs 272. ICICI Bank dropped over 2.5% to Rs 636. Mahindra & Mahindra and DLF declined 2% each to Rs 722 and Rs 279, respectively.

Infosys, Larsen & Toubro, Hindalco, BHEL, Grasim and ONGC were down 1-2% each.

VOLUME & VALUE TOPPERS

Unitech toped the value chart with a turnover of Rs 383.37 crore. It was followed by Educomp Solution (Rs 338.68 crore), Reliance Capital (Rs 199.80 crore), DLF (Rs 179.91 crore) and Reliance (Rs 178.42 crore).

Unitech also topped the volume chart with trades of 57.10 million shares. It was followed by Suzlon (20.47 million), Cals Refineries (15.77 million), Satyam Computers (11.51 milion) and Ispat (8.64 million) shares on the BSE.
