February 25, 2021 09:00 IST

A new user-friendly app to control the beast. Automatic transmission with petrol engine. Electronic sunroof. Plus, of course, the safety elements.

Rajesh Karkera/Rediff.com on what makes the new XUV300 special.

February 2019 it was when Mahindra and Mahindra took a bold step to launch the younger XUV sibling, XUV300, as a premium crossover SUV in Mumbai.

Driven at the launch by racecar driver Gaurav Gill, this compact SUV displayed all the characteristics of a racing car from day 1.

Armed with its 5-star NCAP rating on safety and its trusty and responsive manual transmission, the diesel AMT (automated manual transmission) was launched in September 2019. Now, almost two years down the line, the XUV300 gets its Petrol AMT.

Launched in the W6 and the W8 variants, the top variant comes with a host of features like anti-lock braking system (ABS), electronic brake-force distribution (EBD), brake assist (BA), electronic stability program (ESP), hill hold control and a traction control system (TC/TCS) which can also be disabled by the touch of a button for those adventure thrills on road.

And yes, a new connected car feature in the W8 using the new Bluesense Plus app from Mahindra & Mahindra that has some 40+ features one can access from both Andriod and iOS -- like a remote control for your vehicle, say.

Also on offer is the electronic sunroof which is available as an option in the W6 mid-variant too.

The Interiors of the XUV300 AMT

The interior of the XUV300 has always been the place to be.

The rear seat, which houses the flat bottom centre, is the most comfortable in this segment.

The large taillights in the XUV300 have always made a statement on the roads. This gives a good advance alert to the car behind when this one has hit the brakes.

So how does this AMT drive?
