The new model is longer, wider and taller
The updated version of one of the most popular cars in the world, the Mini Cooper Convertible, is all set to be showcased at the Tokyo Motor Show. Just to spice things up, the company has given a glimpse of the popular convertible ahead of its official unveiling. The vehicle will be available for purchase in the UK from March 2016 and its release in the Indian market should follow soon.
There are various features in the upcoming 2016 Mini Cooper that are quite exciting including electric roof that has been tweaked or rather evolved for the new model. Then there is an advanced rollover protection system that can sense a potential rollover via the single piece roll bar sensor so as to keep the passengers safe.
Under the hood, 2016 Mini Cooper comes with a 1.5-litre diesel engine and it has two options for the petrol variant including the 1.5-litre motor and a 1.2-litre mill. Both diesel and petrol variants come with 6-speed manual transmission system to work with while there are alternative for automatic variants as well.
There are some perks with the automatic transmission variants with users getting mounted shift paddles on the steering wheels. On the other hand, there are some standard elements as well which will be available across all models. Some of such features include Dynamic stability control, Electronic differential lock and Traction control which will act as a boon to the overall safety of the passengers in the car.
Although 2016 Mini Cooper remains the same for the most part as far as appearance is concerned, the new model is longer, wider and taller if we talk about
There have been other dimensional changes as well including a 28mm increase in wheelbase along with a 42mm increase in tracks for the front and 34mm for the rear. The 2016 Mini Cooper has gained 115kgs as oppose to its predecessor which is a natural side effect of trying to make the vehicle a lot more compact. It takes 18 seconds to deploy the soft top of 2016 Mini Cooper during the speed of 30kmph.
There is plenty to look forward to inside the cabin with the new avatar incorporating a 6.5-inch infotainment touchscreen that will work in sync with Bluetooth connectivity and USB port. There are other features as well that would make parking the car quite convenient including a reversing camera, park assist and rear parking distance control.
All these features will entice most car enthusiasts and most of them would be looking to get their hands on 2016 Mini Cooper as early as March next year. How the new additions in the car along with dimensional tweaks affect the sales of the hatch is yet to be seen but considering the fact that popularity and aura of Mini Cooper has never died down since its inception, the new model is destined for success.
