Markets in a tizzy; Sensex rebounds to 4710The stock markets in India opened on a firm note on Thursday morning as pivotals led a rally. The Bombay Stock Exchange, India's premier bourse, witnessed brisk trading. The BSE Sensex, the 30-share benchmark index, was at 4712 at 15:30 hours IST, up 47 points or 1 per cent from Wednesday's close of 4665. Earlier in the day, it touched 4760. The National Stock Exchange's S&P CNX Nifty was at 1426, up 26 points or 1.85 per cent. The Indian rupee was steady at 43.52 to the US dollar. At the BSE, Hindustan Lever, Infosys Technologies, Glaxo and MTNL were in the limelight. Cement and private banks' stocks were in demand. Pharma shares were firm. The news that the Union Cabinet has okayed amendments to the Patents Act has been received well by the market. Shares of Hoechst and Rhone Poulenc hit the upper limit of the circuit breaker. The Sensex ended at 4710, the Nifty at 1417 and the rupee at 43.49 to US $.
