Pivotals declined marginally on the National Stock Exchange on the first day of 'Samvat 2055' at a special moorat trading session on Monday.

Reflecting the weak trend, the S&P CNX Nifty opened at 839.70, touched the day's high of 840.00, low of 830.25 and finally ended lower at 831.25 points, showing a net loss of 8.25 points over the previous close of 839.50 points.

The CNX Nifty Junior came down by 16.10 points at 1406.75 points from the previous close of 1422.85 points.

S&P CNX Defty closed lower by 6.75 points at 680.70 from the Friday's close of 687.45 points.

S&P CNX-500 and CNX Midcap 200 dropped by 5.57 and 5.56 points to 572.79 and 503.43 points against the previous close of 578.36 and 508.99 points respectively.

Commenting on the moorat trading and subdued trend, NSE managing director Dr R H Patil said the market witnessed dull trading mainly due to uncertainty prevailing in the market for quiet some time.

Also, the fact that Tuesday is the last day of settlement, seems to have prevented market participants from long-term positions.

However, Patil was hopeful of improvement in the trends in a couple of days.

Total turnover on the NSE reported during the session was Rs 4.59 billion from 18.63 million shares in 75,271 trades. Value of debentures traded stood at Rs 2.09 million.
