The Trump World Tower in New York City became the tallest residential building in the world in 2001. However, its glory did not last long.
Dubai's stunning skyscrapers came into the limelight. In 2003, the Century Tower in Dubai surpassed Trump World Tower as the tallest residential building.
Later in 2005, Q1 in Gold Coast, Australia, became the tallest residential building in the world.
Today, Dubai reigns supreme in residential skyscrapers.
1. 23 Marina (Dubai, UAE)
Height: 395 metres (1,296 ft)
Storeys: 90
One of the most attractive projects in Dubai, the building has 48 duplex apartments offering panoramic views over The Palm, Jumeirah, Burj Al Arab and the Arabian Gulf.
Built by Hircon LLC, a joint venture between Mumbai-based Hiranandani Developers and ETA Star properties, the tower has spacious two, three bedroom apartments and duplexes.
The Dubai Marina complex is located beside water side promenades, has facilities for water sports, shopping, dining and all modern amenities.

2. The Marina Torch (Dubai, United Arab Emirates)

Storeys: 86 The Torch is part of the Dubai Marina luxury complex. The residential tower offers great views of the Marina and the Palm Jumeirah.

15. Triumph-Palace (Moscow, Russia)

Storeys: 54 In 2003, Triumph Palace became Europe's tallest building. However, in 2007, Naberezhnaya Tower C in Moscow surpassed this tower to be the tallest in Europe.

15. Tower Palace Three, Tower G (Seoul, S Korea)

This luxury residential skyscraper was the tallest building in Seoul, South Korea till 2004. It was surpassed by the Northeast Asia Trade Tower in Incheon.

By 2014, India's financial capital will have the world's tallest residential building!
Lodha Developers plans to build the world's tallest residential tower at a cost of Rs 2,000 crore (Rs 20 billion) in central Mumbai.
The 1,450-feet (442 metre) WorldOne will come up at Worli on a 17-acre plot. The units would be priced between Rs 7.5-50 crore (Rs 75-500 million).
However, World One may become the second tallest residential building in the world if 'The Pentominium', a skyscraper under construction in Dubai, is completed by 2013 as per schedule. The residential tower funded by Trident International Holdings will be 516 metres (1,693 ft) tall.
