One film, the Oscar-nominated Elizabeth, and director Shekhar Kapur has become India's symbol in Hollywood.
After making his mark with films like Masoom, Mr India and Bandit Queen, he set his eyes on Hollywood.
On his sojourns abroad, he struck up a friendship with the music maestro Sir Andrew Llyod Webber and decided to make the screen version of The Phantom Of The Opera. Back home, among many of his films which are waiting to be completed, is Tara Rum Pum Pum, in which Kapur worked with Rahman and was highly impressed.
So it isn't surprising that he decided to get the two musical genuises together to create a musical, tentatively titled Bombay Dreams.
The trio were in Bombay recently to announce the launch of their new venture. Shekhar Kapur spoke to Kanchana Suggu and Swapana Mitter about Elizabeth, Bombay Dreams, Manoj Shyamalan and his non-filmi business ventures. In Real Audio.
